Our day started with a midmorning walk through Hongdae. I’d heard that Hongdae was the trendy place to hang out and I could see why. The area is pretty, filled with students and young people, and there were plenty of reasonably priced restaurants and fun, quirky shops. I’d call it anything but boring, and of course, I fell in love with it immediately.
Lunch was Italian fare at LH2 in neighboring Insadong. We watched the chef prepare our meal in a homestyle kitchen in the corner of the restaurant. It was hot, fresh an absolutely delicious! I don’t think we left a single crumb behind when we moved on to the next chapter of our day’s adventure.
When you are full, it’s time to walk and burn calories, and shopping is the just the ticket. We visited some cute Hongdae shops and vintage stores, tried on hats and scarves, giggled and took pictures.
Shopping around Hongdae was fun, but Yoojin had even more planned for us, which included a brisk walk that ended at the LINE FRIENDS store!
I was super excited, ran around like a little kid at Chucky Cheese. Eventually, my friends went downstairs to the coffee shop to wait for me to run out of steam. When I got downstairs, I was delighted to find life-sized BT21 characters to photograph. In the end, my shopping bag was both large and full. I wondered how I’d ever get my BT21 goodies in a suitcase, but I was sure I’d find a way.
As we walked on to visit the YG PLACE in the Lotte store, along the street, the trees were wearing Christmas sweaters! It was so charming and festive and put me in the mood for—you guessed it—more shopping! The YG PLACE was a tiny island in the Lotte store, and it didn’t have a whole lot of merchandise, but we enjoyed taking pictures and picked up a few bits there as well.
The rest of our day was so colorful, you’ll have to see it in the next post…
