On January 30th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s office indicted eleven individuals for crimes related to the Burning Sun scandal case. Among the eleven, Seungri, formerly of BigBang and Choi Jonghoon, formerly of F.T. Island, were indicted without detention: Seungri was indicted on charges of mediating prostitution, repeated gambling and violating the Foreign Exchange Act (by not reporting money borrowed to gamble in the US), and Choi Jonghoon (already in prison for gang rape and illegally filming and distributing sex videos) was indicted on bribery charges.

Indicted without detention means that, in Seungri’s case, the prosecution felt it was unnecessary to hold him in jail until his trial. Since Jonghoon is already in jail, adding detention to his indictment was unnecessary.

Additionally, a request for summary judgment (court decision without a full trial) was made for five other individuals, including Jung Joon Young, charged for soliciting prostitution, and Yoo In Suk, CEO of Yuri Holdings, charged for mediating prostitution and embezzlement.

At this time, nothing has been mentioned about how the indictments will affect Seungri’s entry into mandatory military service, although, it is assumed that his service will have to be postponed further until his trial is concluded.
