2020 has been a tough year for the whole world, and in the USA, we’ve had it particularly hard with a contentious presidential election and rampant COVID. Frustration and anxiety are in full bloom here and the need to connect is more imperative than ever!
Because of the pandemic, many of us are stuck at home or working from home and miss getting out and about. I work from home as a freelancer, so I really get frustrated with the same four walls and pine for last year at this time when we could freely travel and play, all over the world.
I seriously need a break from the four-wall, computer-screen monotony at home, and long to travel. Given that that’s not possible right now, what I came up with to feel better was to plan a “re-cation” to South Korea, pulling from all of my 2019 travel photos and using the hashtags #recation and #recation2020. I hope you’ll all enjoy going on my trip with me, and if you find the idea appealing, maybe you will share your re-cations too!
After a long, sleepless, movie-driven flight, we were delighted with our Korean firsts—first Korean sunset in Incheon, first beautiful night skyline in Songdo… And of course, my first “in Korea” meal, courtesy of Yoojin. 🥰 The soup was delicious and I learned how to eat clams (working on developing my seafood palate). And who doesn’t love the heck out of pajeon (Korean pancake)!?
We ended the night with a hilarious struggle to open the broken hotel room door that involved me, Yoojin, the maintenance man, and an assistant manager (I think). All the while, our exhausted and unsuspecting Billie was ear-plugged, eye-covered and so deep asleep she never heard a thing. It was our first surprise adventure in Korea and there were more to come…
