We said goodbye to Jeju City and took off on a new day’s adventure. Road signs advised us where we might go, but since we couldn’t decide between the Museum of Sex and Health and Hello Kitty Island, we settled for soup and dumplings at a roadside restaurant called Bon Jeom.
We made our next stop the Jusangjeolli Columnar Joints Geopark. The hexagonal columns were dramatic and beautiful and a spectacular reminder that we were on a volcanic island. As we were leaving, we found the best sweet treat ever—a giant warm flame-toasted marshmallow with an icy cold chocolate-coated ice cream bar inside. My taste buds cried out in sheer delight!
The giant toasted marshmallows got us through until we could arrive at the Honeymoon Hotel. The hotel was closed, but the coffee shop was large and roomy, and the patio invited us outside with wide tree-framed views.
We enjoyed pie and coffees before moving on to a volcanic pond along the Jeju Olle 6 trail, where my friends pranced atop pointy volcanic rocks at the water’s edge as I carefully handed myself from one pointy rock to the next. My efforts were worth it, though. The scene was beautiful.
Next, we meandered along one side of the Soesokkak Estuary. I was struck by the fantastic blue-green color of the water in the estuary, I think others feel the same as the waterway was filled with people in kayaks and rowboats.
It was time again for food, and we stopped at a restaurant that I think was called Baekrok. They put out a massive spread that all went into a giant bubbling soup pot. So delicious! Tummies filled and ready to relax, we enjoyed the sunset at our new Air BnB as another lovely day on Jeju Island came to a close.
